According to research
conducted by Rescue Remedy, the on-the-spot stress reliever, 58% of
us rate job interviews as one of the most stressful events we'll encounter
throughout our working lives. However, with over a third (40%) of us
considering a career change within the next 12 months it's essential
that we're well prepared for the interview process.
Luckily Rescue Remedy
has put together the following top tips which could mean the different
between a job offer and a rejection letter:
1. Lean slightly
towards the interviewer to show you are enthusiastic about the interview.
2. Don't play with
your hair or your hands - this will distract you and the interviewer.
3. Sit comfortably with both feet on the floor during the interview,
and avoid placing your bag on your knees, folding your arms or crossing
your legs as this can create a defensive barrier between you and the
interviewer.
4. Maintain natural eye contact with the interviewer - but don't try
to stare them out!
5. Is there more than one interviewer? If so, then always look at the
person who is talking to you - but shift your glance from one to the
other when it is your turn to speak.
6. Using your hands to gesticulate is natural for some people
but
don't overdo it!
7. Nod to show you're listening to what your interviewer has to say.
8. Smile! A positive attitude and a happy face can do wonders for your
image - and your potential employer is more likely to remember you,
too.
9. Try to be natural as you can
when it comes to the crunch, it's
often your personality that swings the interview in your favour and
not your CV.
10. Keep a bottle of Rescue Remedy handy in your bag or pocket for instant
stress relief before and after the interview.
