Mersey Internal Audit Agency (MIAA) is a major provider of internal audit and consultancy services to over 40 NHS organisations in the North West and Wales. MIAA is part of the NHS and operates as a shared service. Due to continued growth we are now seeking to employ a number of talented and ambitious professionals. MIAA is the predominant supplier of internal audit and related services across its region including counter fraud, IM&T, capital and, most recently, a clinical governance support unit. MIAA's budgeted turnover is over £3 million which is demonstrative of the organisations ambitious and strategic goals.

Never has the issue of information and IT in the public sector in general, and the NHS in particular, had a higher profile than in the past 12 months. Whether it be public concerns over data security on-going scrutiny of the National Programme for IT or the need for independent assurances and advice has never been greater.

The successful applicants will work with a portfolio of clients and will focus on a specific geographical area close to one of our offices (Liverpool, Chester or Salford).

In addition to the competitive salaries quoted (which will be subject to pay award in April 2009), you will be entitled to NHS benefits such as a final salary pension and generous leave entitlements etc.

We are currently looking to recruit ambitious and focused individuals to our IM&T audit team to support its continuing growth and further develop and maintain its local and national reputation as a centre of expertise.

The key purpose of this role is-

1. To take responsibility for the delivery of IM&T audit plans across a range of clients
2. Undertaking a range of complex IM&T assurance and advisory assignments within these and other clients.
3. including the personal conduct of highly complex assignments.
4. To conclude upon the quality of all audit opinions produced for allocated clients/assignment, contributing to the Head of Internal Audit Opinion and Statements on Internal Control as required.
5. To direct and supervise staff and contractors to deliver the allocated audit plans on time, to budget and to quality standards.
6. To deputise for the Head of IM&T Assurance as required
7. To report to Audit Committees on a regular basis.
8. To respond to a broad range of sensitive and complex queries from clients and staff.

If you are interested in this post you must have a Professional accountancy qualification (CCAB) OR Membership of the Institute of Internal Auditors (MIAA qualified) OR appropriate IT audit qualifications (e.g. QiCA, CISA, CIISP etc) OR an appropriate degree (e.g. Health Informatics or Information Security)

Experience of working in NHS or other public sector organisations is desirable but not essential. All successful candidates must demonstrate a full and mature understanding of NHS structure; policy, functions and systems together with the aptitude to build on that knowledge.
