Airbus currently has more than 53,000 employees, and is one of the world's leading aircraft manufacturers.
Headquartered in Toulouse, France it operates 16 development and manufacturing facilities in France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom - along with subsidiaries in the United States, China and Japan, plus a number of regional offices. Airbus builds, sells and supports a complete product line of 12 aircraft models, from the 100-seat single-aisle A318 to the 555-seat A380 - the world's largest civil jetliner. Airbus also is present in the military transport aircraft sector with the A400M multi-role military airlifter and aerial tanker versions of the A310 and A330.
In 2004, Airbus achieved a turnover of more than 20 billion euros, and it has received a total of more than 5,000 orders from some 200 customers. More than 3,500 Airbus airliners are in service today with some 230 operators around the globe. Expertise in the design and manufacturing of wings has been the major - but by no means the only - British contribution to Airbus aircraft from the company's earliest days 35 years ago.
Today the Airbus UK sites at Filton, near Bristol, and Broughton, North Wales, make up the Centre of Excellence - Wing. The design office at Filton - one of six within Airbus - manages the design of all wings for the whole Airbus family of aircraft. It is also responsible for the design integration of the landing gears and fuel systems.
As well as design engineering, Filton manufactures wing components and assembles parts prior to delivery to Broughton for inclusion in wing assembly.
As an employer, Airbus offers exciting and challenging career opportunities in a multicultural environment that rewards innovation and enthusiasm.
Effective career development is key to acquiring and maintaining skills and ensuring business continuity. Airbus therefore places considerable emphasis on this area, conducting regular reviews as well as active succession and personal development planning. Our philosophy is that the company and the employee are jointly responsible for active career development.
Personal development is also actively encouraged at Airbus. As an illustration of this commitment, each year, around 160,000 days are spent on formal training activities during normal working time. The nature of this training varies widely in both depth and breadth. It can range from awareness training in financial control to training for an MBA in aerospace management.
