Hi i've read your comment's on disability and unless you are disabled you will not understand how frustrating it is trying to convince an employer, in which you have just filled an application form which ask's you are you disabled. I have answered the question truthfully and feel that unless they give you an interview how would they know your abilities only by what is written on a piece of paper. I feel I will not answer the question and take my chances in the interview when they meet me face to face. In 1980 I started work for a company and in the same year I had an accident and lost my left hand from my wrist down. The company I worked for kept me employed for over 30yrs and I was gratefull for that but eventually the company shut and I was made redundant and out of work for 6 month's.

My job description is Warehouse Operative/FLT Driver and I have worked hard and proved my ability and drive that I am more than capable. I feel that it's not what you know but who you know and that's how I am working now,but got to start all over again as I am being made redundant. If I am disabled how come when I come to claim anything im not considered disabled but when applying for a job I have to say I am. I don't class myself as disabled but feel that people judge you by your appearance and feel it's unfair. That's enough feeling sorry for myself but the system fail's a lot of people and for people like me who push themself's to prove they are good enough make's me sad....

I don't know how you arrived at £245 cost from York to London
National Express is £30.40 return or £45 premium ticket. Coach departs at 8am
Ok si it takes 6 hours, arrange your interview for late afternoon, the interview time has neve been an issue to agree on for me. So it's a long day - what else are you going to be doing.

My husband was made redundant after 20 years as a technician, he is 52. He took any temporary work available and through this now has a permanent job in a totally new industry. Sign up with an agency, try new things, reinvent youself. It is very important to show employers that you are felxible and adaptable, many actually welcome older employees with better work ethics than youngsters. Take courses and perhaps try to find a different career, Good luck!!

If companies are saying that education is the least important thing on a resume, then why do all job ads state that uni degrees are a minimum requirement?

I do not class myself as disabled but limited I have photophobia and osmophobia which causes migraine. Alot of smells like anti-persperants, perfumes, air fresheners, hair spray and fabric conditioners affect me.I did not realise how many of these surround me until smells started affecting me. I have suffered with migraines since a child which could be controlled to a certain point but now I try to avoid my smell and light triggers as much as possible. I would love to get a job but I am limited to where I can work and even how I can get to work without smells etc.My doctor has just signed a limited capability certificate for me and I am now waiting to hear if I can claim Employment support and allowance to help tide me over until I am successful in getting a job. I would love a job. If anyone has any hints tips or advise It would be really appreciated. Thanks. Sandy

I have been unemployed for a year. After years of working as a secretary/administrator/office manager, I have made over 300 job applications. I am finding that agencies are adding to the problem of my age group (58) getting "back in". One direct employer has told me she had 300 applications, I find that my IT skills are behind and that the employers "must have" list is getting longer! Added to which the requirement for graduates for a job which I have over 30 years experience of, smacks of a class prejudice. In a lot of instances there is no need for high education. I left school at 15 and can do the jobs I am applying for but not getting.

At least you are all going to interviews. I am 51 years old ,with a BA from the days when a degree actually meant something in terms of academic rigour and I have not had an interview since 1987.

A Housing association interview with a panel of five persons, I was asked to submit the meaning of abreviations by a person who had been to university who did not know A from B. I responded to all and even the rest of the panel did not ask any significant question beneficial to the Vacancy. They class themselves as management, it's a disgrace:
