Bouky’s Experience Transferring

I’m currently studying for a Marketing Diploma and about to start looking for a new job when my course ends in May. I have experience working at a managerial level for a major brewery in Africa, but I’m afraid it will put off recruiters when I start applying for my first marketing job in the UK. I am happy to start at the bottom again and work my way up.

Should I tone down my experience on my CV or tell them about all I have to offer?” What do you think? Should Bouky downplay his experience to get his first job? Should he leave his CV as it is? Or do you think his managerial skills will be transferable to the UK, enabling him to apply for higher level jobs?

Janet’s Training Predicament

I have just started at a new company within accounts; however I am using a software program that I know little about. As a result I am now getting more and more work that needs to use this software. Although I can use it a bit, I find myself struggling at times.

I’m worried at telling my boss, I am struggling but know that with a training course I could do my job much better. Should I say something, knowing the course will take weeks, if so how? Or should I fund the training course myself and do it in my spare time? I really want to make a good impression so I can progress within the company.
