“I have been at a company for a 5 years now working within Sales, for the last few months I have got into a relationship with the Marketing Manager. Its not common knowledge throughout work, however a few people do know about us.

Last week a promotion opportunity came up within Marketing, and it’s something I would like to go for as I have a University Degree in Marketing. However I am worried if I get the job people will think it’s because of my partner. I have been searching for a Marketing position for 2 years now, without any luck, and I really enjoy working for this company. I feel that I could get this position, what can I do?”

I work in a large secondary school as Network Technician. This place is great for gaining experience, I have three years worth now. However I am now looking for a job with better prospects – but, as a practicing Muslim, I have to consider the possibility that most employers, particularly in industry, would be less sympathetic about the obligation I and all practicing Muslims have to perform our Prayers and attend my local Mosque on a Friday for half and hour for Jummah prayer.

The other complication is that I am an English born white man, I have been a Muslim and happily so for three years and I can imagine being taken for a joke as most people associate Islam with Asians.”
