Sometime ago I decided on a major career change, as a result of changing priorities in my life.
Problem: my resume and covering letter seem to alarm recipients. Why would I be looking for a lower level management job after my previous jobs? Because I want to work part time and although I intend to be as professional as I always have I think I am frightening people. They are certainly not responding!
What should I do?

After a very successful global career in marketing within the IT&C industries I was made redundant last year and frustratingly I am still looking for the right job and company.
I’ve lived overseas for the past 10yrs so is it as a result of a limited network? Is it because I am a woman and appear to have reached the glass ceiling? Is the IT sector too safe hence not wanting innovative marketeers? Are employers intimitated with the fact that I have lived and worked across the globe but may not have the network in the UK? Why aren’t other B-2-B industries willing to risk taking on board an “outsider”? What do I need to do to land a good senior marketing role?
My CV has been reworked and tailored. My covering letters are spot-on.
What am I doing wrong?
Your input / advice or assistance would be much appreciated!

I am a 47 yr old facilities manager looking to move on.
I have been using sites like Jobsite to post my cv and intially ,when I first started in July of this year I really thought this was the answer. I get constant calls from agencies saying how impressive my cv is and that they will forward my details onto thier clients and then hear nothing.
It is seriously getting me down and as I really feel I should have moved on by now my job is becoming harder and harder to sustain.
Any advice?

Interviewing a potential candidate is more difficult than one thinks – so why aren’t more recruiters trained in the art of really getting the best information from candidates?
Part of the problem is that most of us think we’re great interviewers, just like we think we’re all great drivers – we passed the relevant test years ago, so why take it again? But if we’re really going to find out what a candidate’s skills, personality and needs really are, the simple fact is that most of us need some new ideas about how to do it.

I’ve worked now for three years as a self-employed self-taught analyst programmer. I became self-employed after not getting anywhere for 18 months after the company I worked for transferred all skills back to USA.
I’ve plenty of experience in-the-raw with many programing languages and platforms, no formal qualifications, but in the last 6 months there has been NO contract work available (barcodes, ‘hazardous’ data collection, asset tracking, WIP tracking…) anywhere in the South West.
I’m currently doing a temporary job sorting at the Post Office for the Christmas period!
How do I consolidate my experience to get the next job/contract? Or is it shelf stacking or 118118 from now on?
