Some people choose a particular career pathway and ease into the day-to-day workings of their role as if they were born for it. We all remember a Nurse or Teacher, for instance, who seemed so natural in their position. That fine line between professional excellence, working towards bringing out the best in yourself and true career happiness is what we all strive for. By understanding your qualities and strengths, you can encourage a positive, tailor made career choice that makes you shine.
Who I am
It sounds basic, but asking yourself the simple questions, “Who am I and what am I all about?” is a great starting point. Whether you are out of work or in work and seeking a more rounded and thorough grasp of a career suited to your strengths, we suggest you begin by reviewing your CV in detail. This will provide you with all the information you need to make a list of your strengths and skills. In each area of your work including any voluntary and charitable contributions, list the strengths that brought out the best in you. You will also want to ask yourself, “What am I good at and What do I really enjoy doing?” These questions and lists will give you a great insight and understanding into your personality and put you on track to the right career choice for you. And don’t worry if your CV isn’t too vast and you’re struggling with compiling lists. It doesn’t start and finish here. Have a look into the projects, voluntary or otherwise, you’ve been involved with. Perhaps you’ve made a real impact with a local community. We can sometimes really undervalue the strengths and positive nature of some of the work we do, so think clearly and sharply about your qualities. Continue reading “Careers and Your Personality” »
We all have different ideas of what we mean by success. For some, it’s landing that dream job. For others, it’s a set of career goals and aspirations waiting to be conquered. The nature of success changes over the years, but how you prepare for it doesn’t. With a few simple ideas, you can get your ball rolling and shape up for success.
Blueprint for success
Have a master plan. Behind any great venture is a well thought out roadmap of where you want to be and what you want to be doing in your career. Whether it’s a year from now or five years from now, we recommend you put your plan into action and down on paper. This will give you all the direction and structure you need. Add detail to the content with a list of what you need to do to accomplish each stage of your career journey. If you’re looking for a job, we recommend you outline a six-month plan that details the role you want and what you need to achieve at each stage. Stick to this outline with persistency and patience, and your master plan will be your springboard to success. Continue reading “Developing Yourself For Success” »
We’re really looking forward to this week’s Social Recruiting Conference, which is being held on Thursday 30th June.
Last year’s event was well-attended and gave some of the leading names from recruitment and talent a platform to share and discuss case studies of how they were incorporating social and mobile recruiting into their overall hiring strategies. We’re sure that this week’s conference will be no different!
There will be 2 keynote presentations:

Last Sunday a team from Jobsite (myself, Keith Potts, Ann Dalton-Brown, Paul Larter, Gareth Robba, Richard Lear and Vicky Taylor) plus friends & family took part in the annual 54 mile ‘London to Brighton Cycle’, in aid of the British Heart Foundation. (We haven’t quite smashed our fundraising target yet, so we’d welcome any further donations) Being a keen cyclist, the thought of the long distance cycle didn’t faze me but it soon became an opportunity to place bets for the quickest finishing time and competitions of ‘Who could have the lightest bike’.
Training
Well, I wouldn’t really count what I did as training. Does the cycle to and from work on my mountain bike count? As the days got closer to the event, I and several others decided that this would be the perfect event to use our Racer/road bikes, bearing in mind I had never even sat on mine, let alone raced on it.
