Insider - For the latest job hunting and recruitment news and views

What’s the latest news in the recruitment market?

Back in February, the research agency we use, HPI, took a snapshot of the quarterly data they run for us so that we could share it at TRU London. These interim findings were shared in the ‘Insights into recruitment and job hunting’ blog post but didn’t include any business results as this sample was too small at that stage.

We now have the full February 2010 research from HPI which we’ve put into a report for you. Some of the most interesting new findings include:

  • Vacancy numbers continue to rise with corporates (250+ employees) most likely to be recruiting
  • Number of roles being advertised online is growing at its highest rate with job boards overtaking newspapers as the most popular form of vacancy advertising
  • Despite the increasing popularity of job boards, attitudes to the benefits of online recruitment are down this wave
  • Networking, careers fairs and adverts in trade publications are also gaining in popularity for finding new recruits
  • For candidates, online recruitment remains stable as a method of finding a new job, with more traditional methods losing ground and social media making gains
  • In contrast to candidates, who are likely to use multiple job boards, businesses tend to remain focused on one

Take a look at the latest Online Recruitment Quarterly Market Tracker report to see more of the changes in job seeker and recruiter behaviour. The next research will be conducted in May/June 2010 and we’ll share the new findings with you in an updated report after this point.

It’s interesting to see that these stats back up the anedotal evidence that the internet and soc media are gaining popularity with both job seekers and advertisers. Soc media & online is a major recruitment tool in the US – looks like we are heading in a similar direction here in the UK
