Exclusive Research Shows Cautious Approach from both Jobseekers and Recruiters
The Summer 2012 Evenbase Quarterly Recruitment Review of changing UK recruiter and jobseeker behaviour is now ready to download.
This report is conducted on a quarterly basis by independent brand tracking agency HPI, and shows these key findings since our last report:
- Average number of advertised vacancies per company has risen from 5.7 to 7.7, with 70% now advertised online
- 43% of all jobseekers and 57% of active jobseekers think that their job situation is worse than it was last year
- Job boards remain business’ number one overall method for finding staff, though smaller businesses increasingly rely on personal and business networks
- 9% increase in CV uploads as jobseekers make a greater effort to stay on recruiters’ radar
- Businesses are taking fewer chances with vacancy advertising and daily CV e-mail services being the most popular job board features
- Smartphone ownership amongst respondents is up to 71% with browsing jobs and location searches the two most popular uses for them in job hunting
There is a welcome boost in recruitment compared to the previous report, with an increase in the number of SoHo businesses (single office, home office; 10-49 employees) hiring, whilst SMEs and corporates remain cautious.
The increase in online vacancies, coupled with a 9% rise in businesses using job boards, shows the faith being placed in online resources. Business size does have a big impact though with SoHos showing a strong reliance on personal and social networks, their most used route to market by some way.
This quarter’s key jobseeker findings show a marked upturn (9%) in the number of people uploading CVs to job boards, as well as a 5% drop in those using recruitment agencies, indicating more confidence in the power of job boards, rather than direct approaches, to get the results they need. There was also a growing interest in using job boards to research companies and sectors.
In our Spring 2012 report it appeared that many candidates were showing a more proactive approach to finding jobs, whereas this quarter a lot of that positive spirit seems to have evaporated, being replaced with a more passive approach. Businesses are mirroring this cautious approach, eschewing advanced job board functions in favour of basic features to find the talent they need.
