At Jobsite, we recognise that chemistry is as important in a job interview as it is on a first date. If it's not right from the outset, the relationship and your happiness will be short lived.
The importance of chemistry and culture and whether this is potentially holding people back from finding the right job is one of the issues investigated in a new comprehensive research report published by Jobsite.
Entitled, "In Pursuit of Happiness - The Challenge of Jobseeking in the UK Today", the report surveys 2,300 job seekers, HR Directors and recruiters across the UK to understand the challenges of finding the right job and the right company.
If you're a recruiter click here for insights from our report which can help you.
To help you take charge of your life and better identify the employers and organisations that you are culturally suited to, we launched our Personal Profiles service.
By providing you with a better understanding of your own values, motivations and workplace preferences you can find a company where you will fit. Completing this questionnaire also provides you with interview questions that will help you to find the right company for you.
Real examples of where you provided great customer service or closed a great deal will create far better impressions than where you went to school.
Move away from boasting and more towards confident expression of core beliefs and values.
You should include more personality insights on your CV to help indicate to a potential employer whether you will fit into a company.
Research the company prior to the interview, go prepared with questions (like the ones that you get at the end of the Jobsite Personal Profile), and if you'd like to be shown around the offices and meet some members of staff then ask.
If you get invited back for a second assessment or are offered the job and there are still things that you'd like to know then request further information. No-one ever lost a potential job for showing initiative or being inquisitive and keen.
Poor personality fit is the primary reason why most employees fail their probation period, a common issue experienced by 67% of UK companies
2 out of 3 employees would move to another company to achieve a better cultural fit
Many bosses routinely have a false impression of the candidate from the outset and 1 in 4 employees end up being frustrated that their personality doesn't in fact match the culture of the organisation they are employed by
54% of job seekers do not get enough information from employers to make informed decisions about a company or a position
27% of candidates say employers are asking too few questions
A staggering 91% of job seekers give the answer they think the interviewer most wants to hear during the job interview instead of being honest
