The days of trawling through job ads in the back of the newspaper or trade press are far behind us – with the advance of technology, today’s jobhunters have many ways to look for new jobs and the options keep growing. From iphone
apps to tweets to having job ads beamed through your TV, jobhunting has never been so interesting. At Jobsite, we have been at the forefront of much of this new technology, making sure our jobhunters have easy access to all types of jobhunting news and applications. Here are some of the new ways to search for jobs with Jobsite:
- Mobile jobhunting: a world without mobile phones today would be inconceivable. Mobile phones do pretty much everything these days and the mobile phone site that we launched last year is no exception. Using technology that recognises the type of phone you are using, you can then browse jobs and even apply to jobs while on the go. Simply visit our website at jobsite.co.uk using your mobile phone and you’re good to go!
- Mobile Apps: there are many mobile phone applications on the market that offer assistance with your job search. Whether it’s help with your CV, interview practise, or covering letters, there’s a phone app out there that’s got it covered. The Jobsite phone app is exciting in that it allows you to search for jobs quickly and easily – simply open up the app, type in the details of the job you are looking for, including location. Jobsite will then search for suitable jobs within a 20-mile radius – if any of these take your fancy, shortlist them or apply for them straightaway through a link which takes you to the main jobsite.co.uk web page. There were some real Lights! Camera! Action! moments at last week’s TruLondon, the Jobsite sponsored three day social recruiting unconference. We set up a film studio so that we could bring you advice and insight from some of the leading career and recruitment specialists in the UK and US.
There were many debates around employability and the difficulties facing job seekers. From graduates to more experienced job hunters, we heard lively and informative exchanges, and were really pleased when some of the speakers agreed to take part in a live chat to talk about the issues and their experiences.
You can watch them here:
Three pieces of advice to really look out for:
- Network – everyone stressed the importance of getting out and about and meeting people. You never know who can open the door for your next opportunity. Listen to Rhiannon Hughes talk about how a conversation through Twitter on restaurants in Leeds led to her current job (2m,30s)
- Be bold & open minded – many job seeking graduates only apply for traditional training schemes with large companies. Our panel talk about the benefits of developing skills within SMEs (10m,30s) and hear Charlie Duff (editor of online magazine HR Zone) talk about the risks she took to try and break into journalism (11m,45s)
- Ask Questions – don’t be afraid to ask as many people as you can for advice, guidance and insight. Damon Klotz explains how he absorbed as much as he could from his ‘Yoda’ like lecturer, using questions to show his true passion and energy for his chosen profession (14m,15s)
We hope you enjoy the chat.
We’ll be bringing you more advice and conversations from the Jobsite Studios at TruLondon soon, so stay tuned!

Fashions come and go but when it comes to dressing for the office there are certain rules that always apply. Show that you are a serious employee who has management potential by following these office style tips from Audrey Hanna of corporate stylists Colour Me Beautiful
Ten tips to show that you have management potential:
- Always buy the best you can afford – it really does show.

Countdown to Success
When you prepare yourself correctly for the job you want or the accomplishments you want to achieve in your
career, you’re already halfway there. We all have different ambitions and targets. The road can be long and sometimes tough. So, here are our top 10 tips to inspire you in your search for success;
- Power of planning
A well though out plan will give you direction and structure. Make a plan and write down what you want to achieve in a given period, say six months, and break this down to a week-by-week schedule. Whether it’s a long-term or short-term plan, make it detailed and try to stick to it. Good intentions will always give you good focus.
- Persistence and patience
It’s simple. When you take your time to work hard for something, you often get rewarded. Stick protectively to your big plan and work at making good even better. Arrived late? Got your interviewers’ name wrong? Make the most of the situation.
When it comes to your interview, you only have one chance to leave a strong and lasting first impression. But what happens if it doesn’t go to plan? What you do and say to put your interview back on track will make all the difference and make your interviewer remember you for all the right reasons.
Preparation is power
It is an overused saying but the more you prepare for your interview, the better it will proceed and the better your chance of landing the job you want. Always use your preparatory time wisely. Try to find out as much about the role you have applied for, as well as the company or organisation. Thorough research is your key to keeping professional and in control at all times, even when things don’t go to plan. Make sure you compile a list of all the necessary details you’ll need on the day; full address and directions to get there, name of company and interviewer and telephone numbers including direct land line and mobile.
