Top “people people” needed…

Freed from the time-consuming paperwork exercise it used to be, HR not only continues to play an important role in modern businesses but is now, more than ever, a key part of a company’s strategy…

Jude Read of Leicestershire-based Jude Read HR Consultancy believes proactive HR can increase the efficiency and productivity of the workforce:

“HR manages employee engagement, identifies skills, provides training and implements succession planning, all of which is very important for businesses, whatever their size.”

Paul Tooth, Co-founder and CEO of BrightHR, agrees:

“Today, organisations expect higher levels of performance from their people, with increased pressure, pace and workloads, so there has never been a more important time to invest in an HR team that can inspire a happy, fulfilled and productive workforce.”

It’s no surprise, then, that there is plenty of HR employment out there. Vacancies can be found for both senior HR jobs and entry-level HR jobs – and in every industry sector, from financial services and the public sector to retail and manufacturing. Here’s a sample of the sorts of HR jobs you’ll find on Jobsite.

HR Assistant/Trainee

For those without experience, or even qualifications, this entry-level HR job is the place to start. You will begin with administrative duties like updating personnel records but you’ll progress to other tasks once you’ve completed training, either offsite or on the job. An Assistant/Trainee can earn up to £15,000. Most employers will prefer graduate candidates, especially an HR-related degree. However, people and organisational skills are more of a priority.

HR Administrator

Another entry-level HR job with a salary of £15,000 to £18,000 a year. Most HR administrators are trained on the job, but many employers also expect staff to work towards Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) qualifications. Your tasks will include looking after HR-related documentation, such as contracts of employment, assisting more experienced colleagues in the recruitment process and setting up interviews. It almost goes without saying that you’ll need to know your way around software like Microsoft Office and enjoy working with people.

If you work for a large organisation, you may specialise in just one of these areas. Companies will either look for experience in a similar role elsewhere or provide on-the-job training for postgraduates and expect you to gain relevant CIPD qualifications. Pay can extend to around £25,000.
